A damaged boiler may be quite annoying, especially during the harsh winter months when you are left without heating or hot water until an engineer can come out to replace it.

For some inexplicable reason, boilers always seem to know when you're at your busiest and decide to break at that precise moment, which is why we understand the pressure to get the job done as quickly as possible to get your heating back up and running without taking too much time out of your busy life.

The average time it takes to install a new boiler

A new boiler installation typically takes 1-3 days. This can change if the boiler is being relocated from one room to another, but for a simple boiler installation, we would expect it to take one day.

The time it takes to install a new boiler varies based on factors such as the type of boiler you presently have, whether you're switching to a different type, whether you want to relocate your boiler, and whether any additional work is required, such as installing entirely new pipes.

In this guide, we'll look at how these factors can affect how long it takes to install a new boiler and how much it costs, but first, let's look at what a standard boiler installation entails.

How Long Does a New Combi Boiler Installation Take?

4-6 Hours

The simplest and quickest procedure for an installation is to replace an old combi boiler with a new combi boiler in the same area. Assuming everything goes well, this will normally take a day's labour for a boiler installer (4-6 hours).

During this time, the heating engineer will remove the old boiler, install the new one, and provide a free chemical flush (not to be mistaken with a "power flush"), as well as install a thermostat.

When the job is over, they will clean up the debris and dispose of the old boiler as well as the packaging for the new boiler.

How Long Does it Take to Replace a System/Regular Boiler with a New Combi Boiler?

Up to two days

If you currently have a regular or system boiler and want to convert to a combi boiler, you should expect it to take longer than a like-for-like swap due to the extra work necessary, such as removing the no longer needed water tank and any new plumbing.

The installers must also obtain access to the heating system, which may need the lifting of floorboards and the completion of any necessary repair work.

How Long Does it Take to Replace an Old Combi Boiler with a New Combi Boiler?

Up to two days

If you currently have a back boiler and want to convert to a combi boiler, you should expect it to take up to two days due to the additional work necessary. First and foremost, you will require the relocation of your boiler to a different location in the house.

This might be within a kitchen closet, an airing cupboard, a utility room, and so on...

Second, all boilers require a flue or other means of ventilating dangerous gases such as carbon monoxide. These gases are vented directly up a chimney by back boilers, but a combi boiler can vent in both horizontal and vertical directions.

This means you'll need a new normal flue from the boiler's new position. All of the work that must be done, such as removing the back boiler, relocating the new combi, and any repiping and flue work.

How Much Time Does It Take to Move My Boiler?

+ Half a Day

There are several reasons why someone might want their boiler transferred from one location to another. Many homeowners, for example, believe that having a boiler in their kitchen cabinet takes up too much space that could otherwise be utilised for storage.

In such instances, customers may prefer to have their boiler relocated from their kitchen to the loft or an airing cupboard. Because of the additional work needed in transferring your boiler, such as repiping and installing a new flue, this can take up to a half-day in addition to the time it takes to remove your old boiler and install the new one.

The further you choose to move the boiler from its original location, the more complicated the process and thus the longer it takes.
